The art and craft of drawing is the best foundation any artist can develop to honestly and directly express one's self and what one's experience of their subject is. I have devoted my entire art life to the study and practice of drawing, mainly from the human figure as well as the human skeleton - 25 years.
I don't wish to depend on formulas to identify a subject nor to rely on judgmental opinion for expression. Instead, I prefer to present my subject's image as best as I can, from direct observation. To do this I have been fortunate to continuously study and develop accuracy in drawing of the model as well as oil painting from the model, color theory study and painting from nature. An artist should work at their craft much like the actor develops a character or the dancer practices to stay limber or the musician who internalizes the music and know every note, every chord, every phrase in order to present the perfect performance.
This is how I approach art.
